Installation and usage: First of all you will need xwinwrap for this to work. Then you need to disable the "Nautilus desktop". And if you want to show movies in the background, I recommend MPlayer. Go to http://tech.shantanugoel.com/projects/linux/shantz-xwinwrap and download the xwinwrap package. Install the deb package for your architecture. Then install mplayer. sudo apt-get install mplayer Now turn off the nautilus desktop. gconf-editor Go to "apps" -> "nautilus" -> "preferences" and untick "show_desktop". When you turn off the desktop, you will not be able to see any icons on your desktop anymore. This is of course a big drawback of this. But as far as I know, it's the only way if you want to run Gnome. I am instead using a nice screenlet plugin called "folder view". Read more about screenlets here: http://www.screenlets.org The plugin called "Folder view" can be found here: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Folderview+Screenlet?content=102890 Install Screenlets: sudo apt-get install screenlets Download the "Folder view" screenlet and just drag and drip it on the "screenlet" manager. Or install it manually by copying the unpacked plugin folder to the screenlet plugin dir. Usually that's /home/username/.screenlets Now you can start a "Folder view" from the Screenlets manager and gain access to any folder on your desktop. :) Now, copy the scripts in this folder to your home folder. I have packed the files in the structure they should be. So, copy the files to /home/username/.gnome2/nautilus-scripts When you right click a video you can select to play it with the scripts. The scripts are configured for my setup (2 screens), so you may have to edit them to change them to your setup. NOTE: This thing isn't really useful, but it's fun. I mostly use it to run a movie (that I have seen and like) in the background of one of my monitor, just to have something there. Mostly listening to the sounds and just watching the best scenes when they arrive... :) This is mostly based on information and xwinwrap form: http://tech.shantanugoel.com/projects/linux/shantz-xwinwrap
