What is snille.net?
Snille.net is a personal homepage. :) It is not in any way sponsored or paid for by anyone, it is located at my own server here beside me. All things you can read on the page are my own words and thoughts. And the products I promote, I am or have been using my self. I promote them only because I think they are good products worth trying out.
I have had different versions of my homepage at different times, www.snille.net is going back to December 1999. Before that I hade a "swipnet" page (http://home1.swipnet.se/~w-14137). It will reroute directly here to www.snille.net of course :)... I think, the first version of my page were published (on swipnet at the time) somewhere about early 1997.
In the last version I completely rewrote the page in PHP.
I created an engine for the whole site and created a template system with PHP and Java script so the page became easy to update. I built everything for my personal use only. And I did not have in mind to "spread" the system to others at the time. If you are a programmer you probably know that if you don't intend to spread the code you usually don't put as much effort in to making it fool proof as you should if you where coding for someone else to use it. :) This is of course the case here.
However, I am a fan of readable code and documented quite allot while writing. This was/is for my own gain later on when I have to change something (as we all know you will want to do sooner or later). So the code is ok but in no way near perfect.
As I said the site code where never intended for replication but, now I have gotten requests if someone could copy this and that, and of course they can. I'm also a true follower of open source so, if anyone what the code, just tell me. I'll gladly share it. :)
The gallery is a "part" for it self, however it's heavily integrated in the rest of the page and it was coded almost two years after the first version of the page where published. Before this version of the gallery I used my own SSAWG system for my pictures. The reason I rewrote the gallery was to integrate it in to my page completely and to add some more functionality (such as comments and EXIF picture information).
For the moment I'm not doing any daily updates in the code for the page. But it is an ongoing development in the works as always with web pages... :)
The page content itself is of course updated with information about what's going on in my life, new releases of my project and other interesting things... :)
And for those who are interested the word “snille” in Swedish means something like “genius” in English. And no, I did not come up with the name myself. I was actually called “snille” as a nickname in school (the “gymnasium” that was) and then it just stuck. Anyway, I do not imply that I'm a genius or anything, that I let the ones who know me decide. I just liked the ring to the nick so I kept it. :) |
